The company Linguaphone was founded in 1901 by Jacques Roston a translator and language teacher who emigrated from Poland to the UK and combined Thomas Edison's invention of sound recording, and Alexander Graham Bell's development of wax cylinders to create a method of language learning that could be used at home without the need of attending regular classes.
